B2B lead generation by the numbers
Last updated: November 2026Published by Tim Kilroy
What do the statistics say about B2B lead generation for agencies?
The statistics say B2B buying is slow and shared, most buyers are not shopping at any given time, and the cheapest published channels per lead are SEO, email, and webinars.
Agency Pipeline Guides collects the published figures used across this site in one place, each with its source, quoted as published. None of these numbers are Tim Kilroy's own client results. They are market research from the organizations named beside each one.

How to read these
What should an agency owner take from these numbers?
Three things. First, buying is shared and slow, so qualify for the whole committee and give your champion material to sell you internally. Second, most buyers are not shopping now, so content and visibility decide who gets the call later. Third, existing clients are the highest-odds opportunity you have.
Each idea has its own guide: qualifying the prospect, content and demand generation, and the B2B lead generation strategy guide.
Caveats
What these numbers do not tell you
Averages hide a lot. A $31 average cost per lead for SEO says nothing about whether those leads fit your ideal client. Survey figures describe the respondents of each study, not your agency.
Use them to choose where to look, then measure your own funnel with the leak test and the pipeline calculator.
Common questions
Short answers here. The full agency lead generation FAQ has 46.
- Which B2B lead generation channels cost the least per lead?
- According to Martal Group's 2026 lead generation statistics, SEO ($31), email marketing ($53), and webinars ($72) offer the lowest average cost per lead among B2B channels. Those are market averages, not guarantees. Your own cost per lead depends on your niche, your offer, and how well your message fits the buyer.See it in the FAQ
- Is lead quality or lead volume the bigger problem?
- Quality, for most teams. Martal Group's 2026 statistics report that 61% of marketers say generating quality leads is their top challenge. For agencies, a small number of qualified conversations with a short path to yes or no beats a long list of contacts who will never buy.See it in the FAQ
- How many people are involved in a B2B buying decision?
- Often more than one, and sometimes many. Sopro reports that 20% of modern buying committees now include six or more people, and a further 7% include more than ten stakeholders. For agencies, that means your champion needs material that helps them sell you internally, not just a good feeling from the first call.See it in the FAQ
- Does being first in the buyer's mind really matter?
- Yes. Sopro's 2026 lead generation statistics report that the pre-contact favourite vendor wins the deal roughly 80% of the time. That is why demand generation and content matter for agencies: if a buyer already has a favorite before talking to anyone, much of the work that wins the deal happened before your first call.See it in the FAQ
- Will AI replace B2B sales?
- Not the parts that win agency deals. AI can speed up research, call review, and drafting. Martal Group reports that businesses using AI for lead generation see a 50% increase in sales-ready leads and up to 60% lower customer acquisition costs. Buyers still hire agencies that understand their business, and that takes real conversations.See it in the FAQ
- How is B2B lead generation different from B2C?
- B2B lead generation targets businesses, so it involves more stakeholders, longer cycles, and larger deals. B2C usually targets individuals making quicker decisions. Sopro notes that 20% of B2B deals take over a year to complete. For agencies, that means patience, consistent visibility, and material your champion can share internally.See it in the FAQ
